Pierre-Jules Mene was born and died in Paris, 1810-1871. The most successful and prolific animalier of his day. In 1838 he made his first submission to the Salon, 'Dog & Fox', and established his own foundry. He entered at least one model to the Salon every year thereafter; entries being accepted in his behalf until 1879, eight years after his death.
This fine small model with a deep and lustrous brown patina, dating between 1850-1875.
