Fine Rosewood Cabinet on Stand

hover over image to zoom

A fine rosewood cabinet of drawers on stand, beautifully figured Indian Rosewood veneers on a mahogany base; the drawers are of oak, finely dovetailed all round. Satinwood and boxwood stringing with brass campaign-style flush fitting handles. Five pairs of graduated drawers above a single wide and deep, locking drawer. All were originally lined with green velvet, now with later applied green baize suggesting this was used, and perhaps made, as a canteen for cutlery. The two drawers to the base are false. Fine in all respects, unmarked but attributable to Edwards and Roberts.

English circa 1880.
