A fine portrait executed in pastel by Leon John Sprinck, within the original frame, inscribed to the reverse, 'Painted by Leon Sprinck, October 1909, 15 The Boltons Studios, Redcliffe Road, Kensington'. The sitter is identified by the label as Major G.S. Beeching, both Master of Runnymead and Secretary of Marylebone Lodges, in the uniform of the King's Royal Rifle Corps (KRRC).

Leon John Sprinck, (1862-1948), was a distinguished Russian portrait painter from the court of the Czar of Russia. Born in France, Sprinck fled from Russia to London before the revolution of 1917 and later became a naturalized British subject. He was in the UK in 1898, at 9 Duke Street, Portland Place, London, the year he married Emily Margaret Macdonald (1866 - 1949). In 1916 he is listed in Kelly's Directory as an artist at 8 Boltons Studios, Redcliffe Road, South Kensington. They had three children, two sons and a daughter. Emilie was also an artist of considerable talent recorded as exhibiting at the Royal Academy between 1908 and 1919 whilst at the Boltons Studios.
